Put the summer figures in context

Germany's Federal Employment Agency (BA) reported a seasonal increase of 54,000 unemployed people in August 2026, bringing the total to 3.061 million and the rate to 6.5%. These national figures do not determine an individual person's prospects in a particular city or occupation.

Search specifically and keep your profile current

The BA recorded 656,000 vacancies in August. Update your profile, set alerts for your role and location, and check new listings regularly. Each application should state availability, relevant experience and one practical question about the assignment.

Apprenticeship places are still available

As of August, 116,000 registered apprenticeship places were still vacant, and the reporting year continues until 30 September. Applicants can check vacancies and use the BA careers guidance service. The figures may still change before the reporting year ends.

Clear listings create better matches

Task posters can attract more suitable applicants by stating the work, location, dates, pay, language requirements and contact route clearly. National figures are not a basis for assuming a wage: pay and the contract type must be agreed transparently for the actual role.
