What the new IAB figure means

The IAB job-vacancy survey estimates around 1 million open vacancies in Germany in the second quarter of 2026. That is 129,800, or roughly 11%, fewer than in the previous quarter. It describes the overall labour market; it does not predict how easy or difficult one specific role or location will be.

For posters: vague listings lose first

When applicants choose more carefully, a listing needs to answer the essential questions immediately: What is the task? Where will it take place? When is help needed? How long will it take? What pay or budget is planned? Which experience, language or equipment is required?

For applicants: look beyond the title

Compare the task, location, dates and pay before applying. A short, specific application stating your availability, relevant experience and one practical question is stronger than a generic message. Do not send an ID copy, IBAN or an advance payment to an unknown contact.

Put the statistics in context

The IAB figure is a labour-market estimate, not a list of immediately available jobs. For a concrete search, use current listings, regional filters and direct questions about the assignment. This article is practical orientation, not legal advice or job placement.
